Edward Steichen Award Luxembourg

Marianne Villière

Born in Nancy (FR) in 1989, she lives and works in France.

After a Master's degree at ENSAD in Nancy (2012), Marianne Villière graduated from the Master CCC - critical theory at HEAD in Geneva and was awarded the Gianni Motti Prize (2014). Her performance practice is influenced by micro-sociology and deploys tactics of civil disobedience. In the common space, her approach seeks out tipping points that will bring people together. By reversing the balance of power, often collectively, she invites to take care of the forms of life in which we participate. She seeks to make the margins or biodiversity perceptible by associating them with the artistic gesture. This involves composing contextual, ephemeral situations. Discreet but complicit, her interventions offer a double-edged sword. At first, the gesture seems funny, light and even superficial, only to confront the audience directly. These alternative relationships attempt to highlight the ecology of our commitments and ambivalences.

Marianne Villière was nominated for the Edward Steichen Award Luxembourg by Fanny Gonella (Director at FRAC / Fonds régional d’art contemporain de Lorraine, France).
